Objectives for 2008

As the delivery of our business strategy is dependent upon our ability to attract, develop and retain highly talented people, we have set the following objectives for 2008 to support this:

Recruitment

  • To recruit three graduates onto the John Laing Graduate Trainee Programme.
  • To enhance the way in which John Laing markets itself as a potential employer in order to attract high calibre people with the right skills, experience and approach.
  • To enhance the quality of selection decisions through the use of revised recruitment procedures which include the John Laing Corporate Competency Model and further training for interviewers.

Retention

  • To reduce annual staff turnover across the Company from the 2007 level.

Management and Development of Talent and Potential

  • To introduce new initiatives for identifying and nurturing talent and potential and succession planning.

Training and Development

  • All employees to agree and complete at least two training and development objectives during 2008.  (These should be agreed as part of the annual appraisal process or for new starters as part of their three or six month review process).
  • The Management teams of each Business Division and Function to ensure that the achievement of these objectives is supported and monitored to ensure their successful completion.

Staff Motivation and Reward

  • 100% of staff forms that are reviewed as part of the annual appraisal are completed and returned.
  • To review the Company’s remuneration arrangements and working arrangements to ensure that they remain effective and competitive.
