We are seeking skilled Commercial Managers at all levels to join as part of the Business Development group, contributing to the growth of the business (UK/Overseas) by supporting the bid teams at all stages of the bid process from the development of the proposal through to financial close.
Responsibilities Include:
- Leading contractual negotiations on key issues on projects during the bidding stage all the way through to financial close both facing the Client and sub contractors
- Take responsibility for the commercial elements of the bid proposal at all stages of the process; more focus from ITN through to financial close
- Ensuring that future work is secured on terms and at a price consistent with the business objectives and established investment / risk criteria
- Prepare and agree Sponsor / Bid Agreements / Heads of Terms with Co Sponsors, sub contractors and consultants at the commencement of a bid
- Lead negotiations with lawyers to ensure that risks are adequately covered
- Implement commercial systems, disciplines and structure
- Actively manage the project’s commercial activities, cash flow, costing and profitability
- Establish, monitor and control bid budgets liaising with Sponsors to ensure budgets are signed off/updated as required
- Liaise with Sponsors to understand and agree commercial positions and ensure these are properly reflected in the negotiations
- Assist in the formulation of bid strategy, identifying potential opportunities and supporting the development of the proposal
Skills and Experience Required:
- Relevant degree or equivalent
- A financial, legal or construction qualification would be an advantage, including membership of a relevant professional institution e.g. RICS
- Experience in the negotiation and closure of long term complex deals, preferably but not necessarily PFI
- Project management exposure, including experience in building design, engineering and occupier needs desirable
- Strong commercial background, from within construction or a similar technically demanding environment
- Ability to communicate - being credible in dealing with end-user clients, their legal teams and other consortium partners
- Strong written communication and report writing skills
- Ability to build relationships with both public and private sector associates
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines, with a hands-on and pragmatic approach
- Desire to deliver businesses that can operate independently
