The Business Development division of the Investments business is responsible for the groups PPP/PFI bidding and business development in all sectors, both in the UK and internationally.
We are interested in receiving applications from experienced Bid Managers to join a wide group responsible for bidding activity across John Laing Investments Ltd. This role, specifically, will work within the Central Government Procured / Major Projects team and will initially be involved in bidding for roads projects. Flexibility to move across bidding teams and to support bidding in overseas markets will be required. This will be a managing role as part of a team taking a consortium from pre-qualification to preferred bidder and on to financial close.
The Role:
Develop a partnership approach with the client and co investing sponsors, involving all parties
Be a manager and representative for key aspects of JL input and involvement in the bid team
Take a managing role in the bid team on behalf of investing sponsors, working within a framework of agreed sponsor strategies
Fully understand the risks on the Project and control the transfer of those risks to the appropriate parties
Harness, motivate and coordinate the D&B contractor, the service provider and advisors, so as to produce an optimum bid that meets the clients requirements in a commercially acceptable structure
Support the bidding process including establishing budgets, controlling expenditure, programme management and co-ordinating the activities of the team
Drive and orchestrate the development of the D&B and Operations contracts, supporting the negotiation of contracts to financial close
Skills and Experience Required:
Experience gained in either the construction, operational or technical environment, ideally within PFI / PPP
Proven record of working with a team to achieve a successful result (such as a financial close or similar)
Exposure to and administration of contractual agreements
Proficient in MS Office
Ability to work under pressure as part of a deadlined programme
Commercial acumen and negotiating ability
Energetic, competitive and a desire to achieve
Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills; ability to engage client and build an effective network
Team player
Capable of absorbing information and comprehending it in a short time span
Relevant degree or equivalent; relevant subject desirable e.g. Engineering, Construction, Maths, Economics - or similar
A qualification or membership of a relevant professional institution would be an advantage e.g. RICS, CIOB, ICE
