John Laing Achieves Prestigious CommunityMark Award
CommunityMark is a national standard of excellence in community investment, first launched in 2008 and endorsed by HRH Prince of Wales and the Prime Minister at the time, Gordon Brown.
Business in the Community announced in 2009 that it had awarded John Laing the CommunityMark, recognising the Company’s outstanding contribution to local communities where it operates.
There are currently 37 CommunityMark companies and each has been assessed according to five principles of community investment.
These include
- identifying the social issues that are most relevant to the business and surrounding communities,
- working in partnership with the community,
- investment in the community,
- inspiring and engaging employees,
- and evaluation.
Having a strong sense of social responsibility is important to John Laing and we pride ourself on not only understanding our obligations to employees, communities and the environment, but acting on them. Employees are encouraged to have at least one Corporate Responsibility (CR) objective within their annual performance targets and annual awards recognise staff who have made the greatest contribution through innovative CR activity.
Stephen Howard, Chief Executive, Business in the Community said: “I congratulate John Laing on achieving the CommunityMark. At a time when trust and confidence in businesses is at an all time low, it is examples like this that will help to demonstrate that some businesses are taking the responsibility they have towards their people and the planet seriously and that it makes business sense.”
Our Quarterly Community Report identifies significant achievements in the key areas of our community programme.
