Wednesday, February 11, 2004

John Laing plc has been named Developer of the Year for 2003 in the prestigious Infrastructure Journal Awards.

This follows the company’s success in the PPP Developer of the Year category in 2001 and again in 2002.

The company won the accolade for its work across a wide spectrum of infrastructure projects in a range of sectors and its innovative approach to the delivery of high-quality public sector facilities.

John Laing’s recent successes include:

·        Laing Roads, with its partner Skanska being awarded the E39 project, Norway’s first PFI project

·        John Laing plc acquiring Amey’s portfolio of eight PFI assets with a capital value in excess of £1 billion, in the most significant PFI secondary market transaction to date

·        Equion signing a uniquely structured £80 million deal to design, finance and construct a military aircraft maintenance hangar for the Defence Aviation and Repair Agency (DARA) at RAF Athan in Wales

·        Equion, in association with Wates, undertaking extensive regeneration of education in the London boroughs of Newham and Enfield

·        M40 trains, part of Laing Rail, developing a new depot facility at Wembley – M40 trains are the only UK rail company with a Network Rail approved safety strategy for the delivery of infrastructure projects on the operational railway network.  M40 Trains operates the highly regarded Chiltern railways service.

Andy Friend, Chief Executive of John Laing plc commented: “We are delighted to have won this award. This reflects our track record in Public Private Partnerships and our ability to work with the public sector and our partners to deliver first-class solutions.

“We have announced major developments in our business during the last year and we will continue to build on this success in 2004. Our focus remains to strengthen our position as the leading infrastructure developer, investor and operator, and to demonstrate our ability to respond to emerging trends in our core markets”.
