Excellcare reaches Financial Close on £24 million healthcare estate improvement programme in Southern Derbyshire

Wednesday, August 31, 2005

ExcellCare, a joint venture between Equion, a division of John Laing plc and Bank of Scotland, has recently announced financial close on a new £24 million phase of the ongoing Southern Derbyshire LIFT scheme.

The Southern Derbyshire LIFT (Local Improvement Finance Trust) scheme aims to improve the primary care estate and access to health and social services in the area.

The latest phase (1B) will see the development of four new healthcare schemes: the Coleman Health Centre, a new resource centre in the Derby area; the creation of a Village Community Medical Centre on the Austin Estate, a designated neighbourhood renewal area in Derby; the Alfreton Primary Care Centre, a one-stop-centre and the redevelopment of primary and community services at Swadlincote Clinic in the Derbyshire Dales.

The LIFT schemes will provide a range of improved healthcare facilities for the region including GP services and accommodation, Mental Health Services, Older People’s Services, dental facilities and pharmacies.

Construction will begin in October 2005 and will be carried out by Laing O’Rourke. The first phase of the LIFT scheme (1A) is now under construction; with healthcare facilities being developed in Long Eaton, Ilkeston and Chaddesdon. Further phases of development are also planned, including a new health centre and community hospital at Ashbourne.

Ian Wells, Director of ExcellCare, commented on the latest Southern Derbyshire LIFT closure      ; ‘These schemes are all about improving the health and wellbeing of local communities in Southern Derbyshire. The LIFT initiative is progressing well and we look forward to welcoming staff, patients and visitors to their new healthcare facilities, and announcing future developments.’
