Tees, Esk & Wear Valleys NHS Trust has formally appointed John Laing as preferred bidder for its £75 million scheme for the Ad>ance project, a new mental health and learning disability development in Middlesbrough.
The new 312 bed hospital, which has a floor area of 26,700 sq metres, will have a wide range of accommodation appropriate to the diverse mental health and learning disability services to be provided within it. The buildings will be light and airy with plenty of gardens and outdoor areas, and provide shared activity space giving patients places in which to be cared for similar to those that might be found in the community. All the living accommodation will be at ground level, contributing to the hospital’s domestic scale. The development is the cornerstone of the Trust’s modernisation programme of service improvements.
Con Egan, chief executive for the Trust said: “This is great news for the Trust and the people of Teesside; we are delighted to achieve this significant milestone in the development of modern mental health and learning disability services on the St Luke’s site.”
Peter Ward, director of healthcare at John Laing Social Infrastructure said: “We are delighted to have been appointed preferred bidder for this important scheme. In partnership with the Trust, we will now hold a funding competition and aim to reach financial close by the end of 2007.”
Laing O’Rourke is the contractor and Equion Facilities Management, a wholly owned division of John Laing, will provide FM services. The funding competition will be managed by PwC.
