This £229 million hospital, which was completed in 2001, replaced two city centre hospitals which served a population of 650,000 people. The new acute hospital was built on a green field site and was one of the first PFI hospital contracts to reach financial close.
This 953 bed hospital is one of the largest single-build hospital projects in England, covering more than 100,000 square metres and provides the latest in patient care facilities to the local population in Norfolk.
Phase 1 of the project was completed 20 weeks early and the hospital has been fully operational since 2002.
Octagon Healthcare is a consortium between John Laing, Barclays, Innisfree, 3i and Serco. Support services maintain the building in “as built” condition throughout the life of the minimum 35 year contract and provide a full range of non-medical back-up services.
