South Lanarkshire Schools

Every secondary school within the South Lanarkshire estate will be either completely rebuilt or undergo major refurbishment as part of a £319 million Public Private Partnership with South Lanarkshire Council. The project will provide 17 new secondary schools on 15 different sites, as well as two refurbishments, benefiting 17,000 pupils.

InspirED, a consortium comprising John Laing, Amec and Innisfree will provide the equity. Amec is the design and build contractor, as well as provider of hard facilities management, on this 30 year contract.

The project, which is scheduled for accommodation completion in August 2009 and overall completion of grass pitches two years later, will be delivered in three phases – the first providing eight schools, the second four schools and the third five new schools and the refurbishment of Hamilton Grammar School which was extensively refurbished in 1996 and Stonelaw High School, which was built in 1998.

The vision is for the project to deliver safe and secure environments for teaching and learning, schools which are fully accessible to all users, “dual use” facilities and environments which promote multi-agency working in the interests of the schools and the community.
