Healthcare

Quality and care of the working environment is more important in our hospitals and clinics, than almost anywhere else. Both patients and clinical staff need total confidence in the facilities and in the services that support them.

We have a proven track record for delivering hospital schemes through PPPs, and a team and supply chain recognised for its experience in public sector healthcare delivery.  We ensure a high quality working and healing environment is maintained throughout the concession period and provide a full range of non-clinical support services, allowing each hospital to concentrate on delivery of first class patient care.

We know how important it is for healthcare bodies to achieve long-term value for money whether it is a city hospital or a local health centre.  Everything from sustainability to security and disabled access is considered at the design stage and we ensure that our projects are built to last.

In Newcastle we are delivering a large redevelopment scheme to provide more efficient, 21st century healthcare services, while NHS Forth Valley are working with us to develop the largest PFI hospital in Scotland.

We are a co-investor in The Barts and The London New Hospitals programme, the largest in the UK, and we are a long-term investor in the Norfolk & Norwich hospital, which was one of the first PFI hospitals to be developed.  We are also working with the Tees, Esk & Wear Valleys NHS Trust to provide a new hospital, which will offer a wide range of mental health and learning disability services, in light airy facilities, with plenty of gardens and outdoor areas, giving patients shared activity spaces similar to those they’d find in the community.

At the other end of the scale, local communities in Derbyshire, Leicester, Nottingham, Manchester and the West Midlands are benefiting from the one-stop primary healthcare and community care facilities that we are delivering through PrimaryPlus, our NHS LIFT joint-venture, along with our facilities management services.  With over 40 health centres and related services either in operation or construction, we are a leading developer in this market and harness our experience to the benefit of all our projects.

And our reputation for success in the UK is now attracting interest from healthcare professionals in central Europe, the US and Canada where we have established ourselves as a major player in the emerging P3 market with the acquisition of two hospitals in British Columbia, the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre, and the Gordon and Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre.

Our clients like the way we listen to what the professionals and patients want and need. And they like the way we relieve them of the non-medical pressures, beginning with identifying and purchasing the most suitable site and continuing with our long-term maintenance commitment. Our project management ensures incidents ranging from boiler failures to broken window locks are dealt with promptly and professionally, allowing clinical staff and their support teams to get on with their own jobs.

Our clients value the commitment we make to develop flexible and productive working relationships by understanding their business from the outset.

Teamwork and understanding have enabled us to devise some of the most innovative solutions seen in the PPP sector.  The Newcastle project was regarded, at the time, as the most competitively priced deal completed in the UK health sector and has brought award nominations for both funding innovation and design.
