Southern Derbyshire NHS LIFT

The Southern Derbyshire Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) scheme provides a range of improved healthcare facilities including GP services and accommodation, mental health services, older people’s services, a children’s respite centre, dental facilities and pharmacies for the south Derbyshire region.

Primary Plus, a joint-venture between John Laing and Bank of Scotland, formed 60% of the Public Private Partnership, with the public sector holding a 40% equity stake. The £38 million scheme has provided seven projects to date with John Laing Integrated Services providing hard facilities management under a 25 year contract.

The first phase of the scheme developed healthcare facilities in Long Eaton, Ilkeston and Chaddesdon, with later phases providing the Coleman Health Centre, a new resource centre in the Derby area; the creation of the Village Community Medical Centre on the Austin Estate, a designated renewal area in Derby; the Alfreton Primary Care Centre, a one-stop-centre and the redevelopment of primary and community services at Swadlincote Health Centre in the Derbyshire Dales.

Further phases of development include a new health centre and community hospital at Ashbourne.
