Queen Elizabeth Hospital

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Greenwich, replaced the old Greenwich District Hospital and was a PFI project commissioned by the Greenwich Healthcare NHS Trust. Due to its experience and track record in the healthcare sector, John Laing was asked to provide technical support for the 25 year project.

The hospital, which opened in February 2001, provides accident and emergency services, operating theatres, wards and out patient departments.

The complex is part new build and part refurbishment of the old military hospital built on the site in the 1970s. It provides 484 acute beds and 87 mental health beds.

John Laing takes on a large role in the day-to-day operations of the Meridian Hospital Company, the special purpose company set up to provide the hospital. It is responsible for maintenance, cleaning, catering and portering. ISS provides soft facilities management and Skanska hard FM.
