Business in the Community
Business in the Community is one of The Prince's Charities and inspires, engages, supports and challenges companies to continually improve the impact they have on society and the environment.
This is achieved by working through four key areas:
- Community,
- Environment,
- Marketplace and
- Workplace;
John Laing is a CommunityMark company, the Standard Mark has been awarded for a three year period in recognition of the excellence achieved in our Community Investment Programme.
Business in the Community has more than 850 companies in membership and John Laing has supported this unique movement since its inception 28 years ago.
We are very pleased to achieve Platinum in the BITC CR Index 2012, having achieved Gold in the previous two years. The award is testament to the ethos of John Laing and of our employees in how we conduct our business and our commitment to the environment and the communities in which we operate.
We are particularly proud of our involvement with BITC and their flagship educational programme Business Class and our partnership with the Paddington Academy.
Our participation in the CR index over the past four years from when we were iniitially awarded Bronze, has been a journey of continual improvement. Achieving Platinum demonstrates that we have effectively integrated corporate responsibility principles into our business model and have clear CR responsibilities and incentive structures at board and operational levels. We also have a structured approach to data collection and social and environmental impact assessment and can demonstrate performance improvement across these key impact areas over the past four years.
We act and report with a high level of transparency and stakeholder engagement, and the materiality, completeness and responsiveness of our published data is often subject to third party assurance.
