The John Laing Charitable Trust has been supporting the National Literacy Trust since 2006. The Trust has committed to donate £60,000 to support a programme called "Reading is Fundamental" in Scotland. The four year programme comes to an end in 2010. The grant has allowed for the employment of a co ordinator one day a week together with a grant towards the project delivery.
The programme enables us to demonstrate our long term commitment to improving education and our understanding of the ways we can assist schools to attain better results. This programme demonstrates the enthusiasm and interest generated, when an investment is made, giving a young child a gift of books he can keep. This investment, provides something new and enabling it to be used creates an energy that encourages better use and self improvment. For a company that invests in providing new schools for the schildren of Scotland, this is a great demonstration of the benefits of the right investment at the right time.
