Waste

The strategy for the Waste group is to minimise the effect of John Laing's operations upon the environment, through active involvement and close liaison with our stakeholders, our staff and our customers and wherever possible, our clients. John Laing's aim is to incrementally produce less waste and increase recycling rates throughout the business, minimising the volumes sent to landfill. By adopting a sustainable approach, we aspire to protect and enhance the environment, whilst reducing the costs of service provision. John Laing proactively and systematically gathers and analyses waste data from its operational projects, to facilitatecontinual improvement in this area.

Our waste objectives are to:

  • Further the minimisation of waste we produce
  • Introduce waste record keeping systems at approprate operational sites
  • Enhance our metrics for the measurement of waste
  • Introduce strategies for the management of waste
  • Consider ways in which waste can be utilised as a resource

Throughout the UK John Laing has a contractual responsibility for waste management on 25 of its projects; 62.5% of which record their waste volumes, as follows:
