What attracted you to John Laing?

John Laing has an exceptional track record in the industry. From a personal perspective, it was a unique opportunity to work with a fantastic management team and a world leading investor in KKR. I was also eager to move back into investing, building on my experience investing in infrastructure at the JP Morgan Infrastructure Investment Fund earlier in my career.

What was the path you took to get to where you are today?

I qualified as an accountant with PwC after university, then worked for JP Morgan and as Head of Europe for the JP Morgan Infrastructure Investment Fund, where I originated investments across a number of sectors across Europe and sat on a number of boards of portfolio investments. More recently, I moved to Citi, where I was Head of UK Investment Banking. I was keen to get back to principal investing - when the opportunity to join John Laing came up, I couldn’t resist the opportunity.

What does high performance look like to you?

For me, the gold medal outcome is providing the solution (or a range of solutions) alongside the problem.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

People do business with people they like.

What was your first job?

Believe it or not my first job, aged 15, was working a brewery in Cornwall (St Austell brewery) - a difficult one to compete with, especially considering the pay packet included a gallon of beer.
