One of New Zealand's largest PPP projects
Ara Tūhono – Pūhoi to Warkworth (NX2) is 18.5-kilometre motorway extension that runs north of Auckland, improving safety, connectivity and resilience for road users while significantly reducing travel times on a key route serving the upper North Island. John Laing acquired its 38.3 per cent equity stake from Morrison Infrastructure's Public Infrastructure Partners portfolio, with acquisition completion reached on 23 December 2025.
John Laing acquires portfolio of core PPP infrastructure assets
The project is structured as a long-term availability-based PPP with a strong government counterparty, consistent with John Laing's core investment strategy of acquiring operational brownfield infrastructure with predictable, inflation-linked cash flows.
NX2 marks John Laing's return to the New Zealand infrastructure sector and complements its existing portfolio of Australian PPP assets including North East Link, Melbourne Metro Tunnel and Sydney Light Rail.
